Nash selected as new West Virginia Farm Bureau vice-president
BUCKHANNON, WV – December 5, 2007 – Frank Nash, of Mercer County, was
elected as the new vice-president of the West Virginia Farm Bureau (WVFB) at its annual meeting in November.
More than 400 members and friends of WVFB gathered at the Days Hotel in Flatwoods to conduct their 88th annual meeting. In addition to electing Nash, members re-elected Charles Wilfong of Pocahontas County to an 11th term as president.
Other business conducted during the annual meeting included the reaffirmation, deletion and addition of new policies by the voting delegates. The single most important function of the organization, policies adopted by WVFB delegates originate at the grassroots level and define the organization’s position on a variety of issues.
New policies and policy revisions adopted by WVFB addressed some of the following concerns: land use planning and farmland protection; surface owners’ rights; commercial vehicle regulations; road tolls and highway expansion; and taxes.
Elections for additional state leadership positions included the re-election of Ethel Nash of Mercer County as the Women’s Committee Chairperson, and P.J. Pendley of Jackson County as Chairperson of the Young Farmer Committee.
Representing more than 17,000 members, the West Virginia Farm Bureau was founded in 1919 to provide leadership, education, information, training and economic services to county farm bureaus to enhance the quality of life for its membership.
