Charles Hunter Jr. chosen as male WVFB Distinguished Service Award winner
BUCKHANNON, WV – Charles Hunter, Jr., 77, of Monongalia County, has been chosen as the male 2007 West Virginia Farm Bureau Distinguished Service Award winner. Mr. Hunter was nominated by the Monongalia County Farm Bureau. One male and one female Farm Bureau member is recognized each year for their outstanding contribution to the establishment, development, advancement or improvement of agriculture in West Virginia.
Hunter operates one of only two dairy operations in Monongalia County on a 250-acre farm where he was born and raised. Serving as a director for the Monongalia County Farm Bureau for many years, Hunter has participated on numerous Farm Bureau committees, including the Membership and Resolutions committees.
The recipient of numerous awards, Hunter was named the 2004 Monongalia County Soil Conservation Farmer of the Year, and has been honored for 50 years of Continuous Service by the Monongalia County Farm Bureau. He is a member of the Dairy Farmers of America, and has served in various capacities for groups such as the WVU School of Agriculture, Girls Scouts of America, Future Farmers of America, and 4-H.
Representing more than 17,000 members, the West Virginia Farm Bureau was founded in 1919 to provide leadership, education, information, training and economic services to county farm bureaus to enhance the quality of life for its membership.
