“Don’t CAP Our Future” Campaign Launched
Climate Change bills in both the Senate and House will impact farmers and ranchers, hit America’s consumers and impair the economy of our nation. For farmers and ranchers, it will mean higher fuel and fertilizer costs, which puts us at a competitive disadvantage in international markets with other countries that do not have similar carbon emission restrictions. For the future prosperity of the U.S. economy and American agriculture, climate change legislation must be defeated by Congress. This is why the American Farm Bureau Federation is launching the “Don’t CAP Our Future” campaign.
The creative vehicle behind this campaign is the familiar “farmer cap.” The idea is simple – sign the bill of a cap you have and send it to the WVFB office. We will put a “Don’t CAP Our Future” message sticker on the “farmer cap,” and hand-deliver it to the West Virginia offices of Senators Byrd and Rockefeller. Caps will also be available for members to sign at the WVFB Annual Meeting, November 6-8.
Reaching across America, farmers and ranchers will voice the concerns from the countryside about proposed climate change cap-and-trade legislation. United through a grassroots effort, the humble farm cap will capture the attention of lawmakers. We also have “Action Cards” for members to sign and send in to the WVFB office. Farm Bureau members can also take action at online resources listed on the WVFB website at www.wvfarm.org
